About the Ranong Mangrove Forest Research Center:

The Ranong Mangrove Forest Reseach Center oversees the management of the Ranong Man and Biosphere Reserve. Located in the township of Ngao, approximately 15 km from the city of Ranong, the center highlights education, conservation and research measures involving mangroves. Currently, 16 staff work at the center and organize school activities, daily excursions into the mangroves, and educational information.

Education facilities at the center include a full informational exhibition room, presentation hall, look-out point, and an award-winning elevated boardwalk of 1 km that passes over root systems of nearby mangroves. Interpretive signboards explaining flora and ecology of mangroves are posted along the boardwalk. Additionally, the boardwalk culminates in a research nursery for young mangroves and an access point canal for long-tail boat excursions into the reserve.

The Mangrove Forest Research Center is the primary hub for research activities within the biosphere reserve. Past and current research includes, but is not limited to: mangrove reforestation efforts, mangrove biodiversity, carbon sequestration of mangroves, ecosystem functions, biodiversity of fauna within the reserve, and socioeconomic development. The Mangrove Forest Research Center welcomes all local, national, and international researchers to conduct projects of all types within the reserve. Come help us understand these fascinating ecosystems!
